Sharon Giffen

Sharon Giffen is the former Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Foresters Financial and the President-elect of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. She has a deep understanding of risk as it relates to demographic issues developed through more than 30 years’ experience in working as both an actuary and an executive in the life insurance sector. She also has expertise in the areas of financial and capital management. 

Sharon is a leader in the actuarial profession, and in developing and applying the highest standards of actuarial science to meet the needs of business and the larger community.

Since beginning her actuarial career in 1981, Sharon worked in roles of increasing responsibility at many of the country’s leading life insurance firms, including Manulife, National Life, and Swiss Life and Health Reinsurance Company. She is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and also serves on the boards of Opera Atelier and Genworth Financial, Canada.
