Allan Edwards
Independent Director
Allan comes to the Board with more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance sector. Starting his actuarial career after graduating from the University of Waterloo, Allan rose steadily through roles of increasing scope and responsibility until he retired in 2006 as Executive Vice President and Actuary, London Life and Great-West Life, and Executive Vice President, Canada Life. His career also included a significant focus on strategy, product development and customer service, allowing him to look at the life insurance industry from both a business and an actuarial perspective.
Throughout his career, Allan has worked to enhance standards and knowledge within the actuarial profession. He is a former Vice President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and served on the board of the Actuarial Foundation of Canada. Allan has a keen understanding of issues relating to longevity and, from 1998 to 2006, was the Chair of the CLHIA Capital Adequacy and Solvency Committee.
