Douglas McPhie

Doug has more than 35 years’ experience in advising boards and senior management of companies, particularly in the financial services sector. Formerly the Canadian Insurance Industry leader for Ernst & Young and a Global Lead Partner, Doug has provided guidance on tax, audit and risk management for many of Canada’s largest multinational insurers and asset managers. He has a deep understanding of life insurance and asset management, which extends to group annuity–based pension de-risking solutions.

For five years, Doug was also the Canadian National Leader of Ernst & Young’s IT Risk and Security Advisory practice. He has an extensive background in identifying and advising on security and confidentiality issues, including those related to managing employee benefits and pension information.

Doug has been on the boards of numerous organizations, including the CICA Assurance Services Development Board (as Chair) and the OSFI Auditors Advisory Group. Currently, he sits on the board of the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation.
